4/28/06 USA: Immigration........
I'm sitting here in tokyo, watching CNN in total amazement about this immigration situation in the USA.

The USA is a country of immigrants. My grandfathers came from Germany and Spain. They came to the USA legally. Millions have done this. I'm in Japan. I came here with a proper visa. I have a working visa now. I am legal.

I can't even imagine coming into Japan illegally or any of the other 20 countries that I've been in. If I was caught here without a visa, I would be put in jail and at some point deported back to the USA. No negotiation. This is for sure. No question about it.

What are you guys thinking in the USA? Either you are legal or you aren't.

4/26/06 I'm Disgusted......

I'm so disgusted to see that the great little town in the mountains of West Virginia that I grew up in has now become just like the big cities. Drug use and abuse is out of control. Recently, the police caught these two idiots "cooking" meth in garbage cans in the city park in the center of town.
4/25/06 Nice Gig Tonight....
Had a nice gig tonight at JZ Brat with the Serendipity Big Band. As usual, the gig was sold-out.

While in Nagano, we stayed at a beautiful Japanese Inn called KEISUI. Here some photos from their website. I'm also including a few photos that I took of our room. Just in front of the hotel/inn/ryokan was the Kurobe River. They had an onsen (hot spring baths) that was really beautiful and sooo relaxing.

Tonight I'll be playing with my "QUARTET" onboard, "The World". Maybe the only "residential" ship in the world. You can buy an apartment on the ship from 600 sq. ft. to 4000 sq. ft.!!! Hopefully, I will have some photos and/or video of our gig tonight.
4/14/06 Last 2 Nights GREAT Live!!!!!

Had 2 GREAT nights at Motion Blue in Yokohama with Norihiko Hibino's Band. I'll have to say it was just a fantastic 2 nights of playing. The music and the "vibe" was so cool and creative and all of the musicians were very hip and easy to play with. But, I was completely blown away by the staff at the Motion Blue. In 25 years, I never been treated any better. It was such a treat to make music there. The staff tried so hard to make our time there so easy. The whole environment was set-up to help us to create music at our highest level. After spending 3 miserable years playing at the New York Bar (Park Hyatt Hotel, Shinjuku, Tokyo), it was such a shock to be treated like a human being. I just can't say enough good things about the people working at Motion Blue.

Fw: Keith Haines and the New Science Ban

Keith Haines and the New Science Band. I went to Blues Alley in Meguro to hear the 'cats' play tonight. I was in shock! The GROOVE was so intense...so great. I've never heard anything in Tokyo that comes close. I was struck by their communication with each other on the stage...always watching each other...giving cues, helping each other and at the same time being so musical and entertaining. These guys are the "real deal". I was happy to hear that a new MIDAS (nightclub) is going to open in Roppongi beside FUSION and these guys are going to be the house band.

Gangs Are Cool?
I Dont Know Why But This Ad In The Train Caught My Eye. Mainly Because
It Is saying That This Guy Is Cool Because He Is In A Gang. I Thought
How Interesting It Is That At This Stage Of The Game In Japan They
Think Its Cool To Be A Gand Leader Or To Be In A Gang. I Wonder How
Many Young People Will Be Motivated To Join A Gang After Seeing Ads
Like That One.

These are the famous Japanese Koi. In The USA we call them carp. I thought these were unusual because they are golden koi. In West Virginia, we also have golden trout.
